Tricine is a buffering agent commonly used in SDS-PAGE to separate small proteins, typically those under 10 kDa. It functions similarly to glycine but provides better resolution for low–molecular weight proteins due to its lower mobility during electrophoresis. Tricine is often included in running buffers to enhance the separation and detection of small proteins in polyacrylamide gels.
