Serum

Serum is a component commonly added to cell culture media, usually derived from animal blood such as fetal bovine serum (FBS). It provides essential growth factors, hormones, proteins, and nutrients that support cell growth, attachment, and proliferation. Serum also helps stabilize the culture environment and protect cells from stress. However, many researchers now use serum-free or chemically defined media for more consistent and controlled experimental conditions.
