APS

APS (Ammonium Persulfate) is an initiator used in the polymerization of acrylamide gels for SDS-PAGE. Together with TEMED, it triggers the crosslinking reaction between acrylamide and bisacrylamide to form the gel matrix. APS decomposes into free radicals that start the polymerization process, allowing the gel to solidify and be used for separating proteins by size.
